Minutes for August 3, 2018 Meeting of the Ephraim M. Daggett Chapter #36 of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (unofficial)

President Mike Edwards called the regular meeting to order at 8:45 a.m. 

Chaplain Roger Tate opened the meeting with an invocation. 

Breakfast was served.

President called the business  meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.

The pledges to the American and Texas flags given, led by Dr. Christopher Hull.

There were 15 members present at the meeting. Ancestor roll call took place.

Dave Lieber, author of Amon! The Ultimate Texan, and former columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, presented a program about Amon Carter.

Officer reports were given.

Secretary, Willie Downs, presented the minutes of the June 2019 meeting. Dr. Christopher Hull moved to accept the minutes. A second was made by Vaughn Oliver. The motion passed.

Treasurer, Vaughn Oliver, reported that our account started with $4,919.73, and now has $4,808.73. There were some miscalculations made but all have been corrected and we are currently in good standing. No expected expenses to date.

Program Chairman, Jay Arrington, reported that we currently have only silver tumblers for sale, $15  for small, and $20 for large. The large tumblers are in limited supply.

There was no old business.

In new business, The Sons of the Republic of Texas will host the 2019 Texian Navy Day at the San Jacinto Monument on Saturday September 21, 2019 at 10:00 am. The event will be held in the assembly room inside the monument.

Registrar, Gerry Gieger, encouraged members to tell family and friends about the SRT so our membership and attendance will increase.

Chaplain Tate gave the benediction, and the meeting was adjourned.

Minutes for June 1, 2019 Meeting of the Ephraim M. Daggett Chapter #36 of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (unofficial)

President Mike Edwards called the meeting to order at 8:45 a.m.

Chaplain Roger Tate opened the meeting with an invocation.

Breakfast was served.

President called the business meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.

The pledges to the American and Texas flags given, led by Dr. Christopher Hull.

President Edwards welcomed Devin Lindsey, Second Vice President General and SRT North Central Texas Representative and guests.

There were 17 members and four guests present at the meeting.

Jim “Tinker” Young presented a program about black powder weapons and equipment used in the American Revolution through the “mountain man” era and the Republic of Texas”.

Officer reports were given.

Acting Secretary Jay Arrington presented the minutes of the April 2019 meeting. Dr Christopher Hull moved to accept the minutes. A second was made by Vaughn Oliver. The motion passed.

Vaughn Oliver, who is the club treasurer, updated the club regarding moving the account to another financial institution.

There was no old business.

In new business, the club voted to pay $60 annually to the company that hosts the club website for email privileges. The motion to pay the fee was made by Gerry Gieger and seconded by Vaughn Oliver.

It was announced the annual meeting for 2020 will be held in San Antonio.

Chaplain Tate gave the benediction, and the meeting was adjourned.

Minutes for April 6, 2019 Meeting of the Ephraim M. Daggett Chapter #36 of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (unofficial)

President Mike Edwards called the regular meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

Chaplain Roger Tate opened the meeting with the invocation.

Sergeant at Arms Dr. Christopher Hull led the Chapter in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States and Texas flags.

Breakfast was served at 8:45 a.m.

16 members and one guest were present at the meeting.

Chapter member John Williams presented an interesting program about the “Embassies of the Republic of Texas”.

Ancestor roll call was conducted.

Officer reports were given.

Sergeant At Arms Dr. Christopher Hull presented the minutes of the February 2, 2019 meeting, as Secretary Willie Downs was out of town. Sam Atkins moved to accept the minutes. A second was made by Vice President Dr. Rob Wilson.

Treasurer Vaughn Oliver did not give a Treasurer’s Report, but did state that he has opened a new account with a balance of $140.00. Funds have not yet been transferred from the old account. He also indicated that he could use some help if anyone is interested.

President Mike Edwards shared the following correspondence from SRT North Central Texas District Representative Devin Lindsey regarding the Annual Meeting in Beaumont.

President General (PG) Ed Heath will serve for another year, as he was re-elected.

Ken Pfeiffer moves from 2nd Vice President General to 1st Vice President General. The reason for this change is that our former 1st Vice President General, Buddy Power, has several personal conflicts that have caused him to withdraw from his position, but remain in the SRT.

Representative Lindsey noted that he was elected to serve as 2nd President General, with the understanding that he would agree to serve for one year, and at next year’s Annual Meeting elections will be held for the following year. The main duty of the 2nd Vice President General is to coordinate with the District Representatives.

Representative Lindsey stated that he will still remain as the North Central District Representative and also remain President of the David Crockett Chapter #47 in Granbury.

Awards for recruiting and for best scrapbook were given at the luncheon.

Stephen L. Hardin, PH.D., author of “Lust for Glory” – An Epic Story of Early Texas and Sacrifice That Defined a Nation,” received the Summerfield G. Roberts Award.

Newly elected officers and District Reps were sworn in during the evening banquet.

Alfred Holt McCutcheon Jr., became the newest Knight of the Order of San Jacinto, the highest honor attainable in the Sons of the Republic of Texas.

Rep Devin Lindsey also sent information that the San Jacinto Day reenactment scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2019 has been canceled.

Representative Lindsey also sent a flyer from the DRT Alamo Mission Chapter, with information about the 101st Pilgrimage to honor the Heroes of the Alamo. The Pilgrimage will be Monday, April 22, 2019, starting at the Tobin Center Vietnam Memorial at 3:15 p.m. and culminating with a wreath laying ceremony at the Alamo.

There was no further business.

Chaplain Tate closed the meeting with the Benediction.

Minutes for Feb. 2, 2019 Meeting of the Ephraim M. Daggett Chapter #36 of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (unofficial)

President John Williams called the regular meeting to order at 8:45 a.m.

Chaplain Roger Tate opened the meeting with an invocation. The pledges to the American and Texas flags given. Installation of 2019 officers was done by Derek Lindsey. They include:

President – Mike Edwards

Vice President – Rob Wilson

Secretary – Willie Downs

Treasurer – Vaughn Oliver

Sgt. at Arms – Chris Hull

Chaplain – Roger Tate

Historian/Membership – Gerry Gieger

Program Chair – Jay Arrington

There were 19 members and 2 guests present at the meeting, including guest members Mr. Weast and his son, who is a Jr. member. Ancestor roll call took place. Don Goodman’s birthday was that day, and an update was given on his heath, that he was still sick. Jay Arrington has an anniversary March 10th.

Chapter members went around the room and presented special personal items for the “Show and Tell” program, which took place during the Ancestory roll call. Jay Arrington presented a biography about Henry Raynes who was an ancestor of his. Vaughn brought a piece of a log from the Gaige Cabin. Many other interesting pieces of Texas History were also presented.

Officer reports were given.

Secretary Willie Downs presented the minutes of the Dec. 1. 2018 meeting. A second was made by Gerry Gieger.

Program chair Arrington stated the March program will consist of John Williams, former Chapter President, speaking on the Republic of Texas Embassies in Europe.

Tate closed the meeting with a benediction by Chaplain Tate.
