MAJ. RIPLEY ALLEN ARNOLD, BORN IN PEARLINGTON, MS. HE WAS SENT TO ESTABLISH A MILITAR Y POST ON THE TRINITY RIVER THAT HE CALLED CAMP WORTH NAMED AFTER HIS SUPERIOR OFFICER, GEN. WILLIAM J. WORTH WHICH LATER BECAME FORT WORTH. HE WAS KILLED BY DR JOSEPHUS STEINER, 6 SEPTEMBER 1853, WHEN HE WENT TO ARREST HIM FOR DRUNKENESS. HE IS BURIED IS BURIED IN PIONEERS REST CEMETERY, BLOCK 4, LOT 51, FORT WORTH, T. A MONUMENT OF MAJ. ARNOLD WAS ERECTED IN THE JOHN V. MCMILLAN PLAZA AT THE NORTH END OF TAYLOR ST. IN HERITAGE PARK, OVERLOOKING THE RIDGE WHERE CAMP WORTH WAS BUILT.
