MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

WELCOME TO THE SONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS AND THE EPHRAIM MERRILL DAGGETT CHAPTER #36, FORT WORTH, TEXAS. WITH 2018 IN THE HISTORY BOOKS, 2019 IS ALREADY SHAPING UP TO BE A YEAR FULL OF EXCITING AND MEANINGFUL HISTORIC EVENTS TO CELEBRATE THE COURAGE AND GREAT PERSONAL SACRIFICE OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HELPED SETTLE TEXAS AND WIN IT’S INDEPENDENCE AND LATER BECOME THE 28TH STATE OF THE UNITED STATES. IT IS FOR THIS REASON THE SONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS EXISTS. WE INVITE YOU TO COME JOIN US AND HELP TO CELEBRATE OUR TEXAS HEROES.

    • COL. JAMES WALKER FANNIN JR. BIRTHDAY, BORN IN GEORGIA, WAS A MILITARY LEADERIN THE TEXIAN ARMY DURING THE TEXAS REVOLUTION. OUTNUMBERED HE SURRENDERED TO MEXICAN FORCES AT THE BATTLE OF CELETO CREEK. COL FANNIN AND NEARLY ALL OF HIS 344 MEN WERE EXECUTED AT GOLIAD UNDER THE ORDERS OF SANTA ANNA.

    • MAJ. RIPLEY ALLEN ARNOLD, BORN IN PEARLINGTON, MS. HE WAS SENT TO ESTABLISH A MILITAR Y POST ON THE TRINITY RIVER THAT HE CALLED CAMP WORTH NAMED AFTER HIS SUPERIOR OFFICER, GEN. WILLIAM J. WORTH WHICH LATER BECAME FORT WORTH. HE WAS KILLED BY DR JOSEPHUS STEINER, 6 SEPTEMBER 1853, WHEN HE WENT TO ARREST HIM FOR DRUNKENESS. HE IS BURIED IS BURIED IN PIONEERS REST CEMETERY, BLOCK 4, LOT 51, FORT WORTH, T. A MONUMENT OF MAJ. ARNOLD WAS ERECTED IN THE JOHN V. MCMILLAN PLAZA AT THE NORTH END OF TAYLOR ST. IN HERITAGE PARK, OVERLOOKING THE RIDGE WHERE CAMP WORTH WAS BUILT.

    • ANSON JONES, BORN IN GREAT BARRINGTON, MA. HE WAS A DOCTOR, BUSINESSMAN, MEMBER OF CONGRESS AND THE FOURTH AND LAST PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS. HE DIED JANUARY 9, 1858 AT THE AGE OF 59 AND IS BURIED IN GLENWOOD CEMETERY, HOUSTON, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, SECTION F-1 LOT 18. HE IS SOMETIMES CALLED THE “ARCHITECT OF ANNEXATION.”
